Ontwikkelingen in dit natuurontwikkelingsgebied worden opgevolgd aan de hand van verschillende parameters (sedimentatie, sedimentkarakteristieken, macrobenthos, vegetatie, vogels) om inrichting en beheer te evalueren en eventueel bij te sturen.","OrigDescr":"Paddebeek is genoemd naar de begrenzende beek en situeert zich ter hoogte van Schoonaarde, tussen de Schoonaarde brug en de begrenzende Paddebeek, op de rechteroever van de Zeeschelde. In het kader van het Sigmaplan moesten de dijken in dit gebied op Sigmahoogte en breedte gebracht worden. Verschillende dijklocatie- en uitvoeringsalternatieven werden voorgesteld, waarbij dit gebied aanvankelijk ook is aangemeld aan Europa als compensatie voor de bouw van het Deurganckdok. Uiteindelijk werd de nieuwe dijk landwaarts verschoven waardoor een kleinschalig slik- en schorgebied (1.6ha) ontstond. Naar inrichting toe werd de nieuw aangelegde dijk niet verstevigd met breuksteen maar werd gebruik gemaakt van terrassen. Twee terrassen werden op hoog schorniveau aangelegd met perkoenpalen en wilgenbussels. Landwaarts van de oude dijk werden echter wel schanskorven aangebracht waarop een klein dijkje van breuksteen werd geconstrueerd. De werken werden beëindigd in september 2003. \r\n\r\nNaar analogie met andere natuurontwikkelingsprojecten langs de Zeeschelde werd een monitoringsplan opgesteld en uitgevoerd. Hierbij werden de bemonsteringspunten gelokaliseerd langs 3 raaien of transecten. Om de vegetatieveranderingen op te volgen zijn langs deze 3 raaien 13 permanente kwadraten (PQ’s) afgebakend waarvan jaarlijks tijdens het vegetatieseizoen vegetatieopnames (Londoschaal) worden gemaakt. Daarnaast wordt van het gebied jaarlijks een gebiedsdekkende vegetatiekaart gemaakt om een beeld te krijgen van de ruimtelijke spreiding van de vegetatie. De absolute hoogte (m TAW) van de PQ’s wordt eveneens jaarlijks ingemeten met behulp van RTK-GPS en theodoliet om de overstromingsfrequentie te kunnen berekenen. \r\n\r\nLangs de centrale raai zijn vier vaste staalnamelocaties afgebakend waar sedimentatie/erosieprocessen worden opgevolgd aan de hand van sederoplots en sedimentatieplaatjes. Ter hoogte van deze vier locaties worden eveneens macrobenthos- en sedimentstalen verzameld. Telkens één op beide hoge terrassen (PA1, PA2). Tussen de terrassen en het breuksteendijkje en op de afgegraven dijk liggen de overige twee
