Alternative dredging strategy Westerschelde
Acronym
WALSOORDEN
Description in English
An alternative dredging strategy was developed for the Westerschelde estuary (southwest Netherlands): sediment was disposed in very shallow water near the eroding tip of an intertidal flat in order to create a more effective ebb-flood distribution, to reduce dredging efforts in the long-term and to improve the habitat. Sediment characterstics, elevation and macrofauna were monitored both in the subtidal and intertidal zone to assess the ecological consequences of the experiment.
Abstract in English
This dataset contains the result of ecological monitoring a dredging experiment in the Westerschelde
