First investigation of benthic assemblages was made by L.V. Arnoldi (USSR) in 1930s.  The pronounced changes in the Gulf bottom assemblages had occurred since 1930s till 1980s due to results of intensive fisheries, mussel\u2019 dredging activity,  general pollution of the water area as well as agricultural developments at the adjacent near shore zones.
