The aim of CEDaR is to collect, store and disseminate information on the distribution of flora and fauna as well as geological sites within Northern Ireland and its coastal waters. It will give advice and information on how to record local flora and fauna, and provide links to local groups and societies.\r\n\r\nCEDaR's databases currently hold more than one million species and site records, and these data are available in a number of formats for research, monitoring, conservation, education and commercial purposes.\r\n\r\nCEDaR is supported by a strong network of amateur local recorder volunteers. To assist with the collection and collation of local environmental records, CEDaR has facilitated the establishment of the Environmental Recorders' Group. The Group comprises 40 statutory and voluntary organisations, local societies and individuals. The Group holds regular meetings and a newsletter is produced. CEDaR has also developed close working relationships with the main statutory conservation agencies throughout the British Isles.
