- Purpose of data capture : Data was collected for a variety of reasons including habitat classification, species distribution and life history information, environmental impact assessment and monitoring, fisheries and conservation.
Methods of data capture: Different methods were used in this collection of survey data. This includes dredging, grabs, cores, diver survey and intertidal survey. More information about survey methodology can be found on the website (www.dassh.ac.uk).
Geographical Coverage : This collection of datasets covers the United Kingdom, Ireland and the North sea. Individual surveys may be specific in their location.
Temporal Coverage: Data ranges from the 1900's to the present day, with the majority of surveys from 1970 onwards.

- A collection of marine life surveys collated by the Marine Life Information Network (MarLIN) as part of their data access program. The MarLIN data access program has now become DASSH (Data Archive for Seabed Species and Habitats).
