The database is regularly updated and at present (12/09/2008) it contains a total of 2315 high resolution images corresponding to 687 species and 155 families from the Western Mediterranean Sea, Weddell Sea and Antartic Peninsula, Southwestern Atlantic (Uruguay and Argentina, Northwestern Atlantic and Gulf of Mexico), Northeastern Atlantic (From Senegal to North Sea), Southeastern Atlantic (Namibia), Indic (Tanzania) and Pacific (New Caledonia, Alaska, Canada, Perú, and Chile). The AFORO website offers an open online catalogue of otolith images and its associated shape analysis through pattern recognition techniques applying Fourier transform (FT), curvature space scale (CSS) and wavelet analysis (WT). This site also includes an Automatic Taxon Identification which allows to search and identify directly using query images of otholits.
