The strategy of regular and perpetual sampling provides data to assess environmental variability at the weekly, monthly, seasonal, annual and decadal time scales. \r\n\r\nThe monitoring program was an extension of a sampling program in the Bedford Basin conducted by researchers at the Bedford Institute of Oceanography since the mid 1960s. \r\n\r\nPlankton data collected as part of the sampling program has been archived in the Fisheries and Oceans BioChem database.
