The data were collected from the entire Romanian coast, from Sulina to Vama Veche.","EngDescr":"The purpose of this dataset was to monitor the situation of Black Sea dolphins along the Romanian coast. \r\n\r\nIn the Black Sea the cetaceans are represented by three species, <i>Phocoena phocoena relicta<\/i>, <i>Tursiops truncatus ponticus<\/i> and <i>Delphinus delphis ponticus<\/i>. The main threat and cause for the decline of the Black Sea dolphins are the fishing nets, so-called bycatches. For protection of the dolphin populations from Romanian Black Sea area in conformity with the objectives of the \u201eNational Action Plan for Conservation of Dolphins\u201d and \u201eAgreement on the Conservation of Cetaceans of the Black Sea, Mediterranean Sea and contiguous Atlantic Area\u201d, with finance from European Union true the Sectorial Operational Programme \u2013 Environment, NGO \u201eMare Nostrum\u201d started a series of activities in partenership with National Institute for Marine Research and Development \u201eGrigore Antipa\u201d Constan\u021ba, Danube Delta Biosphere Reserve Authority, National Agency for Fishing and Aquaculture, Natural Science Museum Complex \u201eDolphinarium\u201d Constan\u021ba, Border Police Inspectorate of Constan\u021ba County. \r\n\r\nThe present database presents the situation of dolphin bycatches along the Romanian coast during 2010 and 2011.
