This dataset is part of a study on oyster cultures in the Sluice dock of Oostende. Water conditions (plankton and abiotic variables), causes of death, fixation and exploitation are investigated in order to propose the best standards and conditions to reduce the oyster mortality and to improve further future development of the oyster culture. Dataset contains only biotic data (presence records of species important for or related to oyster farming and biomass (organic matter) of micro-, zoo-, and phytoplankton).

Biomass of plankton groups and presence records of the most important species related to the oyster farming which were present in the Sluice Dock between 1960 and 1964. The data were digitized by VLIZ from the original reports: Leloup, E. et al. Recherches sur l'ostréiculture dans le bassin de chasse d'Ostende. Ministère de l'Agriculture. Commission TWOZ. Groupe de Travail Ostréiculture: Ostende.
