A South-North transect including 5 geographical sampling stations was sampled to evaluate the extent of biological N<sub>2</sub> -fixation in the Azores Current/Front system (AzC/AzF), and to detect a potential influence of the nearby iron-rich \"Rainbow\" deep sea hydrothermal system. The results indicate that N2-fixation would support a large part of the CO<sub>2</sub> -fixation in the whole area, and that the UCYN abundance may not be related with N<sub>2</sub> -fixation activity.
