title in English
Ferry Box CAMANOC 2014 cruise data (English Channel, 2014)
Acronym
CAMANOC 2014
Description in English
After treatment and analysis, the data acquired will be used to describe the species composition of biological assemblages (fish, plankton, benthos), to characterize their habitats and spatial distributions, to understand the food web structure and to establish a set of indicators related to the ecological state and the descriptors from the MSFD. Furthermore, the sampling of particular stations with a set of gears will allow, by comparison with historical data, to determine the impact of climate change on the composition of benthic invertebrates assemblages, which are known to integrate such change. The data set provided here correspond to high frequency data measured by an integrated, autonomous system called Pocket Ferry Box (PFB, 4H-JENA) whose particularity is to be coupled with a multiple-fixed-wavelength spectral fluorometer (Algae Online Analyser, AOA, bbe Moldenke ; Beutler et al., 2002). All parameters were recorded every minute and geographical coordinates were provided by an external GPS receiver. The system used was assembled with sensors for salinity and temperature (AANDERA conductivity sensor 3919), pH (Meinsberg MV 3010), oxygen concentration (AANDERA oxygen optode 3835), CDOM (AANDERA Cyclops 7 sensor) and spectral groups of phytoplancton using an Algae Online Analyser (AOA) (bbe, Moldaenke). This data set will help to support interpretation of results from JRAP1 in the English Channel.
Abstract in English
Gathering together researchers of various disciplines and from diverse institutes located along the Channel (several IFREMER laboratories, several French universities, English laboratories, universities and NGO), the CAMANOC 2014 cruise on board the RV Thalassa aims at sampling the entire English Channel (EC) ecosystem: hydrology, planktonic compartments including fish eggs and larvae, benthic invertebrates, pelagic, demersal and benthic fish and cephalopods, marine birds and mammals. To do so, the EC area was sampled by complementary techniques: hydrological probe, Niskin bottle, high frequency measurements systems such as Pocket Ferry Box, LOPC, plankton nets, GOV trawl, pelagic trawl, grab, dredge, ROV for sub-marine video, multibeam echosounders and visual observations.
