Lumpfish have however been declining since the mid-1980s, likely as a result of overexploitation, as they are targeted by fisheries where females are killed to harvest their roe. The lumpfish migrate to coastal zones to spawn, but where they go after spawning remains unknown. In fact, we have little knowledge about their biology and behavioral patterns.
