To determine the chlorophyll a concentration (in the presence of pheophytin pigments), we followed the spectrophotometric method described in Rice et al. (2017) using 50 ml water samples, a 1-cm pathway cuvette, and a Shimadzu UV-1700 spectrophotometer. We corrected for pheophytin pigment by replacing the '11.85(OD664)' term in Rice et al.
