Longhurst's North Atlantic provinces obtained as polygons from the Marine regions website (https://www.marineregions.org/) were characterized using scaled and gridded net primary production (NPP) data and then updated using Continuous Plankton Recorder (CPR) data collected between 2003 and 2020. CPR data were obtained from the Archive for Marine Species and Habitats Data. NPP data (averaged between 2003 and 2020 – excluding months where data were not collected due to COVID-19 global pandemic) were downloaded from http://sites.science.oregonstate.edu/ocean.productivity/. The dataset contains grid coordinates (latitude/longitude pairs, projected in WGS84, representing the center point of each grid cell), the original province designation for the location and an updated province designation (where applicable). Provinces that were not updated are not included in the dataset.
