During 2 days, various aspects of spatio – temporal distribution, genetics, and trophic ecology of the calanoid copepod Eurytemora affinis were discussed.\r\nIn the mean time, research on ‘our’ various European estuaries has continued, and we are ready for a second get – together. While Eurytemora and zooplankton remain the core subjects of the workshop, the 2006 workshop will also include a broader exchange about estuarine ecology - and more specifically it’s positioning in a river – estuarine continuum context (drainage basin approach, sink – source function) as well as restoration and management supporting topics. While we realise that this is a somewhat curious programme, we hope it will allow us to screen some possible collaborations on European estuaries, perhaps even plan some project proposals. \r\n\r\nThe workshop is financed by Flanders ‘Fund for Scientific Research , through the ‘Scientific Research Community on ecological characterization of European estuaries, with emphasis on the Scheldt estuary’, coordinated by P. Meire and S. van Damme (ECOBE, University of Antwerp, Belgium) and the Seine Aval project (director J.C. Dauvin, l'UMR CNRS 8013 ELICO, Station Marine de Wimereux, France). \r\n\r\n
Practical information:\r\n\r\n- Participants\r\nThe invitation to the workshop is send to a limited number of potential participants (list included). However, do not hesitate to provide us with names of other people who might be interested. \r\n\r\n- Cost\r\nAs far as our funding stretches, the organisers will pay for food and lodging. Travelling costs are at the expense of the participants. For administrational reasons, participants will however have to advance cost, (for lodging and food) and be refunded afterwards. We will try to minimise the amounts that have to be advanced, and will bring all the necessary forms to be filled during the workshop, in order to get you refunded as quickly as possible.\r\n\r\n- Location\r\nNausicaa, in Boulogne is situated at the end of the dike (coming from Wimereux) You can consult: http://www.nausicaa.fr/InfosPratiques.htm: for a plan\r\n\r\nThe Marine Station in Wimereux is located at : 28 avenue Foch, BP 80, F-62930\r\n\r\n
Programme:\r\n\r\nThe programme intentionally mixes contributions dealing with the zooplankton and the restoration - drainage – basin approach, in order to stimulate an exchange of information between scientists who might not be exchanging views on an obvious, regular basis. \r\n
\r\n
Thursday 14/09/2006\r\n\r\n- 9.00 - 9. 30 welcome and coffee\r\n- 09.30 - 10.00 Welcome and practical info by S.
