- Description @en
- A non profit organisation formed in 1994 as a collaborator in the now defra/WAG funded UK Cetacean Strandings Investigation Program (CSIP). Part of the role of the CSIP is to monitor the health status of cetaceans and other species, (marine turtles & basking sharks) through post-mortem investigations of freshly dead carcasses retrieved from the UK coast. In addition to this records are kept on a database by Marine Environmental Monitoring of 'Sightings' and 'Strandings' of marine turtles around the British Isles & Republic of Ireland. This work is currently funded by the Countryside Council for Wales, Scottish Natural Heritage, Natural England and National Parks and Wildlife Service RoI.
