Part of the role of the CSIP is to monitor the health status of cetaceans and other species, (marine turtles & basking sharks) through post-mortem investigations of freshly dead carcasses retrieved from the UK coast. In addition to this records are kept on a database by Marine Environmental Monitoring of 'Sightings' and 'Strandings' of marine turtles around the British Isles & Republic of Ireland.
