One of the main objectives of TERRA is to develop transversality and exchanges between researchers from different disciplines. The nine research themes  that TERRA researchers propose to develop in the next five years are:\r\n<ul><li>monitoring, impact and adaptation of climate change;</li><li>new approaches to crop protection;</li><li>innovative methods in agricultural production;</li><li>multiscale soil systems;</li><li>development of urban agro-and ecosystems;</li><li>dynamics and changes in forest socio-ecosystems of Central Africa;</li><li>feeding the future;</li><li>innovative processes in biotechnology;</li><li>genetic improvement of agro-biological resources.</li></ul>\r\n\r\nFour Research and Teaching Support Units are associated with TERRA:\r\n<ul><li>Environment is Life: focus on the evolution of interactions between water, soil, plant, ecosystems and atmosphere in relation to environmental factors, under the effect of biotic and abiotic stress (climate change);</li><li>Food is Life: focus on the fractionation and transformation of agro-resources, including fermentation, with a view to developing innovative products and processes;</li><li>Agriculture is Life: offering innovative agricultural production and processing techniques from an agronomic, economic, social and environmental point of view;</li><li>Forest is Life: focus on forest ecosystems and, more generally, landscape structures with a low degree of anthropisation, in both temperate or tropical regions.</li></ul>\r\n\r\nThe group studies different coastal/marine topics, including:\r\n<ul><li>body mass variation in seabird during spring migration;</li><li>microbial interactions in seaweeds;</li><li>soil dynamics in coastal dunes;</li><li>functional properties and health benefits of bioactive peptides derived from <i>Spirulina</i>.</li></ul>","AbstractOtherLang":"TERRA Teaching and Research Centre is een interdisciplinair onderzoekscentrum dat biologische engineering bestudeert en ontwikkelt op het gebied van agrovoeding, landbouw, biotechnologie, milieu en bosbouw. Een van de belangrijkste doelstellingen van TERRA is het ontwikkelen van transversaliteit en uitwisselingen tussen onderzoekers uit verschillende disciplines.
