One of the main objectives of TERRA is to develop transversality and exchanges between researchers from different disciplines. The nine research themes that TERRA researchers propose to develop in the next five years are:\r\n- monitoring, impact and adaptation of climate change;
- new approaches to crop protection;
- innovative methods in agricultural production;
- multiscale soil systems;
- development of urban agro-and ecosystems;
- dynamics and changes in forest socio-ecosystems of Central Africa;
- feeding the future;
- innovative processes in biotechnology;
- genetic improvement of agro-biological resources.
\r\n\r\nFour Research and Teaching Support Units are associated with TERRA:\r\n- Environment is Life: focus on the evolution of interactions between water, soil, plant, ecosystems and atmosphere in relation to environmental factors, under the effect of biotic and abiotic stress (climate change);
- Food is Life: focus on the fractionation and transformation of agro-resources, including fermentation, with a view to developing innovative products and processes;
- Agriculture is Life: offering innovative agricultural production and processing techniques from an agronomic, economic, social and environmental point of view;
- Forest is Life: focus on forest ecosystems and, more generally, landscape structures with a low degree of anthropisation, in both temperate or tropical regions.
\r\n\r\nThe group studies different coastal/marine topics, including:\r\n- body mass variation in seabird during spring migration;
- microbial interactions in seaweeds;
- soil dynamics in coastal dunes;
- functional properties and health benefits of bioactive peptides derived from Spirulina.
","AbstractOtherLang":"TERRA Teaching and Research Centre is een interdisciplinair onderzoekscentrum dat biologische engineering bestudeert en ontwikkelt op het gebied van agrovoeding, landbouw, biotechnologie, milieu en bosbouw. Een van de belangrijkste doelstellingen van TERRA is het ontwikkelen van transversaliteit en uitwisselingen tussen onderzoekers uit verschillende disciplines. De negen onderzoekthema's die de TERRA-onderzoekers de komende vijf jaar willen ontwikkelen zijn:\r\n- monitoring, impact en adaptatie van klimaatverandering;
- nieuwe benaderingen van gewasbescherming;
- innovatieve methoden in de landbouwproductie;
- multischalige bodemsystemen;
- ontwikkeling van stedelijke agro- en ecosystemen;
- dynamiek en veranderingen in de socio-ecosystemen van bossen in Centraal-Afrika;
- de toekomst voeden;

\r\n\r\nAan TERRA zijn vier Research and Teaching Support Units verbonden:\r\n- Environment is Life: gericht op de ontwikkeling van interacties tussen water, bodem, plant, ecosystemen en atmosfeer in relatie tot milieufactoren, onder invloed van biotische en abiotische stress (klimaatverandering);
- Food is Life: nadruk op de fractionering en transformatie van agro-bronnen, met inbegrip van fermentatie, met het oog op de ontwikkeling van innovatieve producten en processen;
- Agriculture is Life: aanbieden van innovatieve landbouwproductie- en verwerkingstechnieken vanuit agronomisch, economisch, sociaal en milieuoogpunt;
- Forest is Life: focus op bosecosystemen en, meer in het algemeen, landschapsstructuren met een lage graad van antropisering, zowel in gematigde als tropische gebieden.
\r\n\r\nDe groep bestudeert verschillende kust/mariene onderwerpen, waaronder\r\n- variatie in lichaamsmassa bij zeevogels tijdens de voorjaarstrek;
- microbiële interacties in zeewieren;
- bodemdynamiek in kustduinen;
- functionele eigenschappen en gezondheidsvoordelen van bioactieve peptiden afgeleid van Spirulina.
