Description @en
The research group Aquatic Ecology (AECO) focuses on innovative technologies for a more efficient and reliable exploitation of water systems in a context of sustainable development. Marine research topics dealt with by AECO include:
  • analysis of risks and benefits of the consumption of fisheries products;
  • sustainability analysis of marine systems;
  • fish monitoring based on camera-systems and telemetry;
  • innovation in monitoring and modelling to support decision-making in fisheries and biodiversity protection;
  • optimisation of plastic clean-up technologies;
  • analysis of the ecosystem functions of mangroves;
  • multifunctional analysis and optimisation of marine systems in relation to land-use and multi-stakeholder exploitation;
  • recirculation aquaculture systems for sea horse production;
  • fisheries analysis based on data mining and artificial intelligence.
Description @nl
De onderzoeksgroep Aquatische Ecologie (AECO) richt zich op innovatieve technologieën voor een efficiëntere en betrouwbaardere exploitatie van watersystemen in een context van duurzame ontwikkeling. Mariene onderzoeksonderwerpen die door AECO worden behandeld zijn onder meer:
  • analyse van de risico's en voordelen van de consumptie van visproducten;
  • duurzaamheidsanalyse van mariene systemen;
  • monitoring van vissen op basis van camerasystemen en telemetrie;
  • innovatie op het gebied van monitoring en modellering ter ondersteuning van de besluitvorming inzake visserij en bescherming van de biodiversiteit;
  • optimalisering van technologieën voor het opruimen van plastic;
  • analyse van de ecosysteemfuncties van mangroves;
  • multifunctionele analyse en optimalisering van mariene systemen in relatie tot landgebruik en multi-stakeholder benutting;
  • recirculatie-aquacultuursystemen voor de productie van zeepaardjes;
  • visserijanalyse op basis van datamining en kunstmatige intelligentie.
