By studying this relationship, the department may, for example, try to understand why swifts have small, slender wings but storks have large, broad wings.  Or why bushbabies jump so much better than the closely related loris.\r\n\r\nAt the Centre for Research and Conservation, various functional morphological issues are tackled. Tehy study the form of animals (in the broad sense) by dissections, CT imaging, but also by biomechanical measurements. How an animal with a specific form functions (i.e. meets the task it has to fulfil) is studied by a wide array of techniques.  Movement analysis (often with high-speed video) allows them to see what really happens, whereas recordings of forces and pressures (e.g. of walking apes) enables us to get a grip on the (bio-)mechanical conditions an animal encounters.","AbstractOtherLang":"De relatie tussen vorm en functionaliteit van dieren is het onderzoeksdomein van de Functionele Morfologie Onderzoek. Het departmenet kan door deze studie bijvoorbeeld begrijpen waarom gierzwalumwen kleine, slanke vleugels hebben en ooiervaars grote, brede vleugels. Of waarom bushbabies zoveel beter springen dan de verwante loris. \r\n\r\nAan het CRC worden verschillende aspecten van de Functionele Morfologie behandelt. De vorm van dieren wordt bestudeerd door middel van dissecties, CT beeldtechniek, biomechanische metingen. De functinaliteit wordt bestudeerd door verschillende technieken. Bewegingsanalyse (vaak met high-speed video) laat toe te zien wat echt gebeurt, waar de opmeting van krachten en druk toelaat de mechanische toestand weer te geven.","AbstractLangCode":"nl","AbstractLangID":41,"AbstractLang":"Dutch","AbstractLangNL":"Nederlands","SuccessorOfInsID":null,"DateLastModified":{"date":"2024-06-04 01:34:19.073000","timezone_type":1,"timezone":"+00:00"},"PrevIns":null,"PrevAcro":null,"PublicFlag":1,"CheckedFlag":0,"ParID":4349,"InstituteType":"Scientific","EnvName":null,"ISO3166":null,"LevelName":"Department","ND":"2007-06-26","UD":"2007-06-26","EncAddress":""},"parent":{"PublicFlag":1,"InsID":7127,"OrigNameLangCode":null,"OrigNameLangID":null,"FullStandardName":"Koninklijke Maatschappij voor Dierkunde van Antwerpen vzw; Centre for research and conservation","FullOrigName":null,"Acronym":"KMDA-CRC"},"institutes":null,"references":[],"conferences":null,"datasets":null,"persons":[{"PersID":14954,"Surname":"D'Août","Firstname":"Kristiaan","Initials":"K.","DirectorFlag":null,"MarineSciFlag":null,"SpecializedFlag":null,"Function":"Coordinator"}],"pastpers":null,"subpers":null,"projects":null,"urls":null,"pictures":[],"published":null,"affrefs":null,"collections":null,"thesterms":null,"taxterms":null,"geoterms":null,"thestermsFRIS":null,"nXtins":null,"previns":null,"spcols":null,"resmessage":"","complete":1,"participantrec":null,"peerrevs":0,"urlmaps":[]}
