Description @en: This study is the second component of the ‘Research on the environmental effects of the SIGMA plan: Effects of dredgings and harbour expansion on the environment’ This component studies the carbon cycle in the Flemish part of the Scheldt-estuary. The water quality in the Sea Scheldt is to a great extent mortgaged by the high carbon discharge. The processing of the C input, and the interactions with sediment requires a good monitoring of the carbon parameters
Description @nl: Deze studie maakt het 2de perceel uit van het "Onderzoek naar de gevolgen van het Sigmaplan, baggeractiviteiten en havenuitbreiding in de Zeeschelde op het milieu". Dit perceel gaat de koolstofcyclus na in het Vlaams gedeelte van het Schelde-estuarium. De waterkwaliteit in de Zeeschelde wordt in hoge mate gehypothekeerd door de hoge koolstofvracht die erin terecht komt. De wijze waarop die vracht verwerkt wordt, en de interacties met sediment vereisen een goede monitoring van de koolstofparameters.
