The fungal succession, community and biomass will be followed during decomposition. Some taxonomic research is essential for further ecological study. The species composition will be studied in relation to a salinity gradient and other environmental factors. Fungal succession will be studied over a three year period in situ on reed. The breakdown of leaf blades, leaf sheats and culms of P. australis will be studied using the litterbag technique. Litterbag of each type will periodically be retrieved, to determine fungal biomass. Biomass will be determined by an ergosterol-technique.","AbstractOtherLang":"Het doel van de studie is een duidelijker beeld te krijgen van het belang van fungi in het Scheldecosysteem door de biodiversiteit, ecologie en biomassa van fungi op riet te bestuderen gedurende het afbraakproces. De fungale successie, de gemeenschapstructuur en de biomassa van de fungi zullen gevolgd worden tijdens de afbraak. De soortensamenstelling in relatie met een saliniteitsgradient en andere abiotische factoren zal onderzocht worden. De fungale successie zal bestudeerd worden over een periode van 3 jaar in situ op riet. De afbraak van de bladscheden, bladeren en stengels zal afzonderlijk gevolgd worden in nylonzakjes. Nylonzakjes van elk type zullen periodisch worden teruggenomen uit het schor om de fungale biomassa te bepalen.
