The project is designed to :

• develop economic and ecological criteria which can be applied to determine the costs of various kinds of marine pollution;
• develop mathematical equations which can be applied in economic submodels for the cost determination of environmental impacts.

Four cases of marine pollution are considered :

• discharge of dangerous chemical substances (black list);
• oil dumping;
• increasing concentration of faecal/pathogenic bacteria as a result of the direct discharges of waste water into coastal waters;
• eutrophication with resultant algal growth.

Description @

Het project heeft tot doel :

• het ontwikkelen van economische en ecologische criteria die aangewend kunnen worden voor de kostenbepaling van diverse types van mariene verontreiniging;
• het ontwikkelen van wiskundige vergelijkingen die aangewend kunnen worden in economische submodellen voor de kostenbepaling van milieu-impacten.

Vier gevallen van mariene verontreiniging worden in rekening genomen :

• lozing van gevaarlijke chemische stoffen (zwarte lijst);
• olielozingen;
• toenemende concentratie van fecale/pathogene bacteriën ten gevolge van de directe lozingen van afvalwaters in kustwateren;
• eutrofiëring met als gevolg algenbloei.
