Therefore, Noord Natie charged IMDC with an analysis of the possibilities for constructing a second container terminal along the Scheldt north of the main access locks to the port. The pre-feasibility study evaluated the major problems of the projects, namely:\r\n<ul>\r\n<li>nautical accessibility of the site and interaction problems with the traffic through\r\nthe locks and to the first terminal south of these locks,\r\n<li>hydraulic situation of the site,\r\n<li>morphological situation of the site (siltation problems),\r\n<li>environmental identification of the project.\r\n</ul>\r\nBased on this preliminary identification study, three alternative solutions with different length and layout, were retained for further investigation.\r\nAfter a first comparison the pro's and cons of these alternatives a first estimate of the investment costs was drawn up for three different construction methods:\r\n<ul>\r\n<li>a traditional quay wall,\r\n<li>a quay wall with a pile foundation,\r\n<li>a quay of the caisson type.\r\n</ul>","AbstractOtherLang":"Ten behoeve van het toenemende containerverkeer via de haven van Antwerpen, is er nood aan een tweede containerterminal op de Schelde. De transit van de schepen naar de traditionele containerterminal via de sluizen is tijdconsumerend. Daarom belastte Noord Natie IMDC met een analyse van de verschillende mogelijkheden voor de constructie van een tweede containerterminal langs de Schelde ten noorden van de toegangssluizen naar de haven. De haalbaarheidsstudie evalueerde de belangrijkste problemen van de projecten namelijk:\r\n<ul>\r\n<li>nautische toegankelijkheid van de site en interactieproblemen met het verkeer door de sluizen en naar de eerste terminal ten zuiden van die sluizen\r\n<li>hydraulische situatie van de site,\r\n<li>morfologische situatie van de site (aanslibbingsproblemen),\r\n<li>milieu-identificatie van het project\r\n</ul>\r\nGebaseerd op deze voorbereidende studie werden 3 alternatieve oplossingen met verschillende lengte en layout weerhouden voor verder onderzoek.
