This study is the eighth component of the ‘Research on the environmental effects of the SIGMA plan: Effects of dredgings and harbour expansion on the environment’ The project follows the developments in two mesocosm experiments and at Lippenbroek on experiment is located at Kruibeke, a second on the UIA-campus in Wilrijk. In Kruibeke they monitor the influence of pollution in flooding areas, whereas in Wilrijk the influence of the tide on the increase of sheer is assessed. The input of contaminants is monitored as well. In Lippenbroek the development of vegetation is followed and related to the environmental conditions.

Deze studie maakt het 8ste perceel uit van het "Onderzoek naar de gevolgen van het Sigmaplan, baggeractiviteiten en havenuitbreiding in de Zeeschelde op het milieu". Het deelproject volgt de ontwikkelingen in twee mesocosmos-opstellingen en in het Lippenbroek op: een mesocosmos-opstelling staat in Kruibeke, een tweede op de UIA-campus in Wilrijk. In kruibeke wordt de invloed van verontreiniging op overstromingsgebieden bestudeerd, terwijl in Wilrijk de invloed van het getij op de groei van riet wordt ingeschat. De aanvoer van contaminanten wordt evneens gevolgd. In Lippenbroek wordt de vegetatieontwikkeling gevolgd en in verband gebracht met de heersende omstandigheden.
