Description @en
The Marine Aggregate Network Maggnet, was established in November 2006 as COST Action 638: Investigating and managing the impacts of marine sand and gravel extraction and use. Maggnet was set up to allow researchers, government and organisations to network and share knowledge and experience between the many research and development initiatives that exist throughout Europe in the marine extraction field. Maggnet aims to bring together and add value to the disparate national and European research initiatives; to identify the ‘grey’ areas which exist in marine research and policy; to disseminate collaborated European research results to assist future national and marine policy objectives; to create a unified, clear position to feed into European marine policy on sustainable extraction of marine aggregates, based on a combined environmental, economical and social approach of the activity. Maggnet meets twice a year and is divided into 4 working groups: Working Group 1: Environmental effects Working Group 2: Markets, materials and exploitation Working Group 3: Resource exploration and development Working Group 4: Technology and data management
