the goal of this study is to archive, integrate and to (re-)interpret seismic profiles and cores, to perform a seismo-, litho- and chronostratigraphic analyses and to map the Quaternary cover, in order to develop a genetic model for the Quaternary cover, in order to develop a genetic model for the Quaternary geological evolution of the Belgian Continental Shelf in the regional context of the southern North Sea.

In het kader van een studie ondersteund door het Fonds Wetenschappelijk Oinderzoek (FWO)-Vlaanderen, met als doel een genetisch model te ontwikkelen voor de Quartair-geologische evolutie van het Belgisch Continentaal Plat, werden tijdens zes eerdere Belgica campagnes seismische lijnen geschoten in gebieden waar nog informatie ontbrak. In het komende -laatste- jaar van het onderzoek, zullen nog extra seismische profielen vergaard worden. De analyse en interpretatie van de reeds beschikbare seismische gegevens zal uitwijzen waar er zich een aantal cruciale zones bevinden, waar belangrijke facies of discordanties voorkomen, met een nog onvoldoende dichte seismische bedekking of waar de kwaliteit van de data ondermaats is.
