To achieve this, a common modelling framework is developed, comprising catchment and river models of water quantity and quality and that incorporates pollution from diffuse sources(e.g. agricultural) and point sources (e.g. industrial and urban effluents). Simulators used in this framework are SWAT (USDA) and Questor (Institute of Hydrology). The models are being validated against a set of study catchments in five European countries for the present day conditions. For future conditions, different scenarios are considered, based on different global circulation models.","AbstractOtherLang":"Het CHESS project beoogt het onderzoek van de gevolgen van klimaatsveranderingen op de kwaliteit van het rivierwater in Europa. Voor het onderzoek werden 5 rivierbekkens, verspreid over Europa, gekozen als testgebied. De analyse voor al deze bekkens steunt op het gebruik van een hydrologisch model (SWAT, USDA), gekoppeld aan een waterkwaliteitsmodel (Questor, Institute of Hydrology). Hierbij wordt rekening gehouden met diffuse pollutie - afspoeling van nutrienten uit de landbouw - en met puntlozingen van de industrie en van de huishoudens. De modellen worden gevalideerd voor de huidige toestand.
