This project will study, using axenically cultured Artemia, the mode of action of some microbiota used as a remedy against pathogens with histological, histochemical and immunological techniques. The following hypotheses will be tested: certain micro-organisms 1) find adhesion sites in the digestive tract where they proliferate; 2) inhibit pathogenic bacteria; 3) induca faster maturation of intestinal wall; 4) have a positive influence on water quality.

Deze studie zal met behulp van axenisch gekweekte Artemia de werking van enkele microbiota ter bestrijding van pathogenen bestuderen via histologische, histochemische en immunologische technieken. Volgende 'werking'-hypothesen worden getest: bepaalde micro-organismen 1) vinden in het darmkanaal adhesie- plaatsen en profileren daar; 2) inhiberen pathogene bacteriën; 3) induceren een snellere maturatie van de darmwand; 4) hebben een positieve invloed op de waterkwaliteit.
