{"projectrec":{"ProID":3370,"StandardTitle":"Onderzoek naar de haalbaarheid van het herstel van serpelingpopulatie in waterlopen van het Vlaamse Gewest","OrigTitle":null,"Acronym":null,"AbstractEnglish":"This research is part of a feasibility study for the recovery of the dace in the Flemish Region, and is joined closely to the still ongoing research on artificial breeding of the species under controlled circumstances and to the research on population genetics which recently will be carried out. Besides a thorough literature study an extensive field campaign was conducted to explore the habitat use of the species.\r\nIn the literature study the population dynamics, habitat ecology, possible predation and competition, diseases and parasites and the water quality requirements of the dace were studied. Furthermore its actual distribution and its historic distribution in Flanders were investigated. The habitat use of the species was studied for different life stages in two Flemish rivers, ‘Grote\r\nNete’ and ‘Aabeek’, and their 1st order tributaries. This was done on three different scales of investigation: a regional scale over different river catchments, a macroscale, within one river catchment, and a microscale, within one river. Most important conclusions of this research were that depth, current velocity, presence of riparian and canopy vegetation, and position in\r\nthe river channel were of importance to 0+ dace. Furthermore depth and curent velocity were most important variables for 1+ and older dace. The results allowed to develop and test habitat suitability models for 0+ and for 1+ and older dace respectively. Furthermore a description of the spawning habitat and a qualitative assessment were possible based on previous data of the INBO.\r\nApplication of these models on Flemish water courses lead to the formulation of measures of management for water- and fish stock managers, and suitable water courses for a pilot reintroduction were pointed out. Finally field protocols were developed to evaluate habitat suitability for 0+, for 1+ and older dace, and for spawning of dace.","AbstractOtherLang":"Dit onderzoek kadert in een haalbaarheidsstudie voor het herstel van de serpeling in het Vlaamse Gewest, en sluit nauw aan bij het onderzoek naar de kweek van de soort in gecontroleerde omstandigheden dat reeds lopende is op het moment van finalisering van deze studie, en bij het onderzoek naar de populatiegenetica dat zal worden uitgevoerd. Naast een uitgebreide literatuurstudie naar de biologie van de serpeling werd ook heel wat veldonderzoek uitgevoerd om het habitatgebruik van de soort in laaglandrivieren na te gaan. In de literatuurstudie werden de populatiedynamica, de habitatecologie, mogelijke predatie en competitie, ziekten en parasieten en de waterkwaliteitsvereisten van de soort onderzocht.\r\nDaarnaast werden de actuele verspreiding van de serpeling in Europa en de historische verspreiding van de soort in Vlaanderen nagegaan. Het habitatgebruik van de soort werd voor verschillende stadia in de levenscyclus onderzocht in twee Vlaamse rivieren, de Grote Nete en de Aabeek, en hun 1e orde zijbeken. Het onderzoek gebeurde op drie verschillende schalen: een regionale schaal over meerdere bekkens, een macro-schaal binnen één bekken, en een micro-schaal, binnen de rivier. De resultaten lieten toe om habitatgeschiktheidsmodellen op te stellen en te testen voor 0+ serpelingen enerzijds en voor 1+ en oudere serpelingen anderzijds. Verder kon op basis van eerder door het INBO verzamelde gegevens het paaihabitat worden beschreven en kwalitatief beoordeeld worden.\r\nOp basis van toepassing van de habitatgeschiktheidsmodellen op andere Vlaamse waterlopen werden beheermaatregelen geformuleerd naar water- en visstandsbeheerders toe voor de herintroductie van de serpeling en werden waterlopen aangeduid die geschikt zijn voor een proefherintroductie.
