- The LIVIS project aims at acquiring information regarding the framework that enables the inflow towards a small-scale commercial fishery. The inflow may come from the recreational fishermen which own a boat on the one hand and from the existing industrial fisheries on the other. Additionally, a proper national framework may attract Belgian commercial anglers which nowadays sail under the Dutch flag. The project maps the magnitude of the marine recreational fisheries sector (capacity, effort/intensity and spatial data), identifies the bottlenecks that hamper the transition from the recreational and commercial fleet, and identifies the critical parameters impacting the profitability of small-scale fisheries.

- Het LIVIS-project heeft als doel informatie te verwerven omtrent het kader dat de instroom naar een kleinschalige commerciële visserij mogelijk maakt. De instroom kan enerzijds gebeuren vanuit het groot aantal hobby- en sportvissers met eigen boot en anderzijds vanuit de bestaande reders. Daarnaast kan een geschikt nationaal kader leiden tot het aantrekken van een niet te ontzien aantal Belgische beroepsmatige handlijnvissers die nu onder Nederlandse vlag varen. Het project brengt hiertoe de Belgische recreatieve zeevisserij voor het eerst in kaart (grootteorde van de vloot, inspanningen en ruimtelijke data), identificeert de knelpunten die een transitie verhinderen vanuit de bestaande recreatieve en commerciële vloot, en onderzoekt wat de meest kritische factoren zijn voor een positieve rentabiliteit van een kleinschalige commerciële visserij.
