De Vlaamse Waterweg is asking Flanders Hydraulics to initiate a study related to breach formation in the Sigma area. The aim is to build a modelling toolbox in which breaching is possible at different locations along the Zeeschelde, based on the most recent Zeeschelde model in Mike11. The two most important aspects to be considered are the determination of the potential locations for breach formation and the parameters of breach formation and breach growth. This can be based on previous studies. Based on the simulation results, flood maps can be drawn up to examine the impact of breaches. The project will be divided into three phases: Project initialisation, construction of model instrumentation with breaches, execution of scenario calculations and analyses with model instrumentation. The course of the second and third phases will depend on the outcome of the previous phase(s), in consultation with the client. Possible outsourcing of the second and third phases of the project can be done through the Water Management framework contract.

De Vlaamse Waterweg vraagt aan het WL om een studie op te starten in verband met bresvorming in het Sigmagebied. Het doel is de opbouw van een modelinstrumentarium waarin bresvorming op verschillende locaties langs de Zeeschelde mogelijk is, op basis van het meest recente Zeescheldemodel in Mike11. De twee belangrijkste aspecten die hierbij dienen bekeken te worden zijn de bepaling van de potentiële locaties voor bresvorming en de parameters van bresvorming en bresgroei. Hierbij kan vertrokken worden van voorgaande studies. Op basis van de simulatieresultaten kunnen overstromingskaarten opgemaakt worden om de impact van de bressen te bekijken. Het project zal opgesplitst worden in drie fasen: Projectinitialisatie, opbouw modelinstrumentarium met bressen, uitvoering scenarioberekeningen en analyses met modelinstrumentarium. Het verloop van de tweede en derde fase zal afhankelijk zijn van de uitkomst van de vorige fase(n), in overleg met de opdrachtgever. Eventuele uitbesteding van de tweede en derde fase van het project kan via het raamcontract van Waterbeheer.
