This project aims at studying structural and functional biodiversity of harpacticoid copepods by analysing density, diversity and species composition of different sandbanks and by relating changes in harpacticoid communities to the Phaecocystis pouchetii bloom in spring. Special attention will be paid to identify ecological indicatorspecies to be able to indicate vulnerable and valuable areas on the Belgian Continental Shelf.

De structurele biodiversiteit van harpacticoide copepoden van zandbanken op het Belgisch Continentaal Plat wordt nagegaan door densiteit, diversiteit en soortensamenstelling te bepalen. De invloed van de Phaecocystis pouchetii-bloei op de harpacticoide gemeenschapsstructuur moet tot een beter inzicht leiden in de functionele diversiteit. Bijzondere aandacht wordt besteed aan de identificatie van ecologische indicatorsoorten om kwetsbare en waardevolle zones aan te duiden.
