Hypotheses concerning the evolutionary significance of biodiversity are investigated using a combination of phenetic and genetic analyses of a number of specific taxonomic groups belonging to different kingdoms. In addition to detailed studies of morphology, cytology and anatomy; molecular and genetic characteristics are used to study the nature and function of cryptobiodiversity and the phylogenetic relationships of the various groups of organisms.

Aan de hand van een aantal specifieke taxonomische groepen behorende tot verschillende rijken worden door een combinatie van fenetische en genetische onderzoekstechnieken hypothesen over evolutieve betekenis van biodiversiteit bestudeerd. Naast een doorgedreven morfologisch, cytologisch en anatomisch onderzoek worden moleculaire en genetische karakteristieken gebruikt voor de studie van de aard en functie van cryptobiodiversiteit en de fylogenetische verwantschappen binnen elke studie-groep.
