These goals will be formulated focussing on the naturalness of the system, whereby the estuarine coupling between the river and the North Sea is centralized. Finally the goals will result in certain requirements for the total estuary or for certain regions within the estuary. Beside this a method is being developed to find out which requirements are needed to obtain these ecosystem goals. This method is using scientific knowledge of as well physical, chemical as biological processes. Finally the method must become a tool to see whether human interventions do not interfere with the ecosystem requirements.","AbstractOtherLang":"In het kader van de lange termijn visie voor het Schelde estuarium wordt op basis van de functionele en structurele karakteristieken van het estuarium een aantal doelstellingen geformuleerd waaraan het ecosysteem moet voldoen. Deze doelstellingen worden uitgewerkt vanuit de functie natuurlijkheid, waarbij het estuariene karakter en dus de koppeling tussen de rivier en de Noordzee centraal staan. Op basis van deze doelstellingen worden er eisen gesteld aan delen van of aan het totale estuarium. Een methode wordt ontwikkeld om, met behulp van de bestaande kennis over de physische, chemische en biologische processen, deze eisen te formuleren.
