The endproduct will be a commercially interesting agricultural product, which can be cultivated as a horticultural crop. The contribution of the laboratory of plant physiology (VUB) in this project is to enhance the germination percentage and the uniformity of germination by means of a pretreatment of the seeds (priming, osmoconditioning). Seeds of wild species have in general a weak germination- percentage over a long time period. The development of a plant tissue culture of these species will facilitate in time the selection procedures. Finally growth optimisation will be investigated by varying the mineral nutrition of these plants. Special attention is focused on the Nitrogen nutrition in order to limit nitrate accumulation in these new vegetables.","AbstractOtherLang":"Het objectief van dit project bestaat erin een aantal plantenspecies te domesticeren welke normaal in zoute of brakke gronden groeien en die lokaal verzameld en verbruikt worden als groente: Zeeaster (Aster tripolium), Zeekraal (Salicornia eurnpaea),Zeekool (Crambe maritima) en Snijbiet (Beta vulgaris L. ssp. maritima) Als eindprodukt beogen we een commercieel interessant agrarisch produkt dat als groentegewas kan geteeld worden. De bijdragen van de dienst Plantenfysiologie, VUB in dit project  bestaat erin het kiemingspercentage alsook de gelijkvormigheid van de kieming te bevorderen door middel van ondermeer voorbehandeling van de zaden (priming, osmoconditionering). Zaden van wilde species neigen meestal tot een zwakke kieming verspreid over een lange periode. Het ontwikkelen van een weefselcultuur voor deze planten heeft tot doel toekomstige selectieprocedures te vergemakkelijken. Tenslotte wordt gezocht naar een optimalisatie van de groei door middel van de aanpassing van de minerale voeding van deze planten.
