    {"projectrec":{"ProID":989,"StandardTitle":"Processes in regions of freshwater influence","OrigTitle":null,"Acronym":null,"AbstractEnglish":"The project's overall aim is to develop process understanding and tested numerical models for Regions of Freshwater Influence (ROFI). It encompasses the study of the role of physical processes controlling water- property distribution and that of suspended sediments controlling the availability of light and nutrients for phytoplankton growth. The project comprises the construction of a fully coupled 3-D nearshore model. It will have high resolution (1 hour, 1 kilometre approximately) and extend offshore to any vertically-mixed region outside the ROFI. It will comprise a framework with modules describing: \r\n\r\n- the influence of tidal cycles and variable weather conditions including waves; \r\n- currents, temperature, salinity, turbulence, and diffusivity including stratification effects; \r\n- sediments including deposition, erosion, and flocculation; \r\n- plankton, nutrients, oxygen. \r\n\r\nThe effects of boundary forcing by measurements or a wider-area model will be compared with those of focusing. Specific tests of model components against measurements will be performed. Model calculations will be tested for prognostic quality and robustness by comparisons with measured constituents in contrasted ROFIs. \r\n\r\nThe following measurements to extend the data basis for ROFI process understanding and modelling will be performed: contrasted ROFI regimes; longer duration to cover variability over a seasonal cycle; more continuous salinity and fluorescence records; good vertical resolution suitable for testing the nearshore model; time series to determine ROFI dynamics and intermittency; time-series of near-bottom sediment transports. \r\n\r\nSystematic observations of the contrasted Rhine, Clyde, and Thermaikos Bay ROFIs will complement earlier measurements in the ROFI areas of the Rhine, German Bight and Po. Behaviour of the contrasting ROFIs will be inter-compared and interpreted using models. \r\n\r\nThe outcome will be a defined set of observations, model code and model output on electronic media, and model-data comparison, suitable for subsequent integration and promulgation as test data, as well as a nearshore model for wider use.","AbstractOtherLang":null,"DateLastModified":{"date":"2025-07-02 08:33:20.809226","timezone_type":1,"timezone":"+02:00"},"ParentProID":null,"BeginYear":1993,"EndYear":1996,"BMonth":7,"EMonth":6,"BeginMonth":"July","EndMonth":"June","OrigTitleLangCode":null,"OrigTitleLangID":null,"OrigTitleLangNL":null,"OrigTitleLang":null,"OtherAbstractLangCode":null,"OtherAbstractLangID":null,"OtherAbstractLang":null,"OtherAbstractLangNL":null,"Progress":"Completed","ProgressNL":"Afgelopen","PublicFlag":1,"CheckedFlag":0,"ND":"2003-11-26","UD":"2007-04-03","DMPFlag":0,"Budget":null,"BudgetCurrency":null},"parent":null,"persons":null,"projects":null,"events":null,"datasets":null,"institutes":[{"instituterec":{"Acronym":"KBIN-BMM","ProPartID":1080,"PublicFlag":1,"OrigNameLangCode":"en","OrigNameLangID":15,"FullOrigName":"Royal Belgian Institute of Natural Sciences; Marine Ecosystem Management; Management Unit of the North Sea Mathematical Models; Brussel","Line1":"Gulledelle 100","Line2":"1200 Brussel","Line3":null,"Line4":null,"InsID":17,"FullStandardName":"Koninklijk Belgisch Instituut voor Natuurwetenschappen; Departement Beheer van het Mariene Ecosysteem; Beheerseenheid Mathematisch Model Noordzee en Schelde-estuarium; Brussel","Role":null,"RoleID":null,"EncAddress":"Gulledelle 100, 1200 Brussel, Belgium"},"parent":null,"institutes":null,"references":null,"conferences":null,"datasets":null,"persons":[{"Surname":"Pichot","Firstname":"Georges","Initials":"G.","LeaderFlag":0,"PersID":26,"Role":null,"RoleID":null,"PastInstitute":1,"BeginDay":null,"BeginMonth":null,"BeginYear":null,"EndDay":null,"EndMonth":null,"EndYear":null}],"pastpers":null,"subpers":null,"projects":null,"urls":null,"pictures":null,"published":null,"affrefs":null,"collections":null,"thesterms":null,"taxterms":null,"geoterms":null,"thestermsFRIS":null,"nXtins":null,"previns":null,"spcols":null,"resmessage":"no id specified","complete":0,"participantrec":null,"peerrevs":null,"urlmaps":null}],"refs":null,"urls":[{"URL":"dbs.cordis.lu/cordis-cgi/srchidadb?action=d&session=250712002-2-27&doc=1&tbl=en_proj&rcn=ep_rcn:5603&caller=en_cordis","externalID":null,"URLTypeCode":null,"URLType":"CORDIS metadata","URLTypID":15}],"thesterms":[{"ThesaurusTerm":"ANE, Germany, German Bight","ThestID":182046,"ThesTypID":34,"ThesType":"ASFA Geoterms","OrigThesTerm":"ANE, Germany, German Bight","DutchTerm":null,"Code":null},{"ThesaurusTerm":"Coastal waters","ThestID":1653,"ThesTypID":1,"ThesType":"ASFA Thesaurus List","OrigThesTerm":"Coastal waters","DutchTerm":"Kustwateren","Code":"c_25205"},{"ThesaurusTerm":"Currents (water)","ThestID":9658,"ThesTypID":1,"ThesType":"ASFA Thesaurus List","OrigThesTerm":"Currents (water)","DutchTerm":null,"Code":null},{"ThesaurusTerm":"Numerical models","ThestID":5621,"ThesTypID":1,"ThesType":"ASFA Thesaurus List","OrigThesTerm":"Numerical models","DutchTerm":"Numerieke modellen","Code":null},{"ThesaurusTerm":"Nutrients (mineral)","ThestID":5629,"ThesTypID":1,"ThesType":"ASFA Thesaurus List","OrigThesTerm":"Nutrients (mineral)","DutchTerm":"Nutriënten","Code":null},{"ThesaurusTerm":"Plankton","ThestID":6265,"ThesTypID":1,"ThesType":"ASFA Thesaurus List","OrigThesTerm":"Plankton","DutchTerm":"Plankton","Code":"c_5950"},{"ThesaurusTerm":"Sediment transport","ThestID":7391,"ThesTypID":1,"ThesType":"ASFA Thesaurus List","OrigThesTerm":"Sediment transport","DutchTerm":"Sedimenttransport","Code":"c_d1a88f2d"}],"taxterms":null,"geoterms":[{"GeoTerm":"German Bight","GeoObjectID":3427,"OrigGeoTerm":"German Bight","DutchTerm":null},{"GeoTerm":"Rhine estuary","GeoObjectID":17833,"OrigGeoTerm":"Rhine estuary","DutchTerm":"Rijn estuarium"}],"funderids":[{"FunderID":"MAS20054","ThestID":181476,"FunderType":"Other contract id"}],"othtermsFRIS":null,"pictures":[],"spcols":null,"resmessage":"","complete":1}
