Dit geldt in belangrijke mate voor de zogenaamde polygechlorineerde bifenyls (PCB's), een groep toxische polluenten met bifenyl als basisstruktuur. In dit eindwerk wordt, na een inleiding en een algemeen overzicht van het gebruikte waterkwaliteitsmodel, in hoofdstuk 3 allereerst een hydrodynamische simulatie van de Schelde uitgevoerd. Het model WASPS stelt ons in staat de dynamische beweging van het water, in sterke mate beïnvloed door de getijden die zich voortplanten vanaf de monding, op afdoende wijze te simuleren. De mogelijkheid bestaat, binnen het globale model de resultaten van deze hydrodynamische simulatie te gebruiken in de in de volgende hoofdstukken beschreven waterkwaliteitssimulaties. Na de dispersiekalibratie van de Schelde door middel van simulaties van het zoutgehalte, beschreven in hoofdstuk 4, volgt dan in hoofdstuk 5 de kalibratie voor het sedimenttransport. In dit eindwerk wordt uitgegaan van de hypothese van een konstante bezinkingssnelheid, en wordt de erosiesnelheid als kalibratieparameter gehanteerd. Het blijkt dat onder deze hypothese, het estuarium kan opgesplitst warden in twee zones met elk een konstante erosiesnelheid. Vervolgens worden het slib van mariene oorsprong en het slib van fluviale oorsprong als verschillende slibsoorten gesimuleerd. In hoofdstuk 6 worden 12 PCB's uit de groep van 209 mogelijke PCB's gesimuleerd. Deze polluenten zijn hydrofoob, wat betekent dat ze sterk zullen adsorberen op de organische koolstoffraktie der sedimenten en op de organische koolstof, opgelost in het water.
