The specimens were attached with their byssus in the suture between the body whorl and the penultimate whorl. <i>S. binghami</i> is thought to be rare in Belgian marine waters but recent research revealed that the species is not uncommon in suitable habitats such as the fouling communities (mussel, hydroids, Pomatoceros reefs…) on buoys, wrecks and boulders. However, the species is never present in large numbers. The species is often confused with<i>Hiatella arctica</i> (Linnaeus, 1767), co-occurring in the same biotopes and possibly also with juvenile <i>Mya truncata</i> (Linnaeus, 1758) and <i>M. arenaria</i> (Linnaeus, 1758).
