The objective of the project was to validate LIDAR technology for hydrography and charting purposes and assess performances in detecting submerged objects. The Gulf of Morbihan in Brittany was chosen by SHOM as the location for this technology evaluation, due to the diverse and complex conditions that characterize the coastal zone in this area. This paper will focus on the operational challenges that needed to be considered when planning and executing this survey.
