Photography also provides a tool for establishing the actual worldwide distribution of these lebensspuren. However, the establishment of the organic origin of features shown in sea-floor photographs and the study of such organic features are complicated by the inability of the camera to see into the third spatial dimension and to record the changes brought about through the passage of time.
