Abstract: This thesis investigates the macrobenthic infauna from Belgian beaches and the impact of beach nourishment on unique sandy beach species of the upper intertidal Scolelepis squamata-Eurydice pulchra community. Whereas diversity and zonation describing research on this community is partially available, population studies of the key species are lacking. Furthermore, a process-directed approach of the impact of beach nourishment is lacking, as most studies present ‘just another case study’, often with methodological imperfections.
