More than 90% of this material is not contaminated and can be disposed of at sea. The amount of contaminated dredged material has decreased due to, amongst others, the focus on the control of the initial sources of contamination by the Municipal Port Management. Further improvement of the quality of dredged material in the port is worked on in the Rhine Research Project II.
