Als één van de mogelijke scenario's wordt de mogelijkheid onderzocht de functies veiligheid en natuurontwikkeling te verzoenen in een nieuw concept: het gecontroleerd gereduceerd getij .<br> Voorliggend rapport onderzoekt de mogelijkheden van dit nieuw concept aan de hand van een simulatiemodel. Dit simulatiemodel vertrekt van een sterk vereenvoudigde representatie van het riviertij (sinusmodel), de sluisgeometrie en de geometrie van de polder (doosmodel). Als resultaat van simulaties geeft dit model (bij gegeven getij en sluisparameters):<br> • de variatie van de (gemiddelde) hoogte van het water in de polder als functie van de tijd<br> • het debiet gewisseld tussen Schelde en polder als functie van de tijd<br> Afgeleide grootheden zijn:<br> • de stroomsnelheid ter hoogte van de sluizen<br> • de overstromingsduur voor locaties op gegeven hoogte binnen de polder<br> • de polderoppervlakte die gedurende een zekere tijd overstroomt<br> Simulaties met dit model geven een beeld van de te verwachten overstromingsdynamiek, en van mogelijkheden om deze overstromingsdynamiek door een gepaste keuze van positie en afmetingen van de sluizen te beïnvloeden.<br> Uit de simulaties blijkt dat het overstromingsregime dat voor schorren in de Schelde geldt, niet kan bereikt worden voor de bodem in de polder. De overstromingsduur is vrij lang, beduidend langer dan voor schorren in de Schelde. De overstromingshoogte daarentegen is minder.<br> Doordat de polder van Kruibeke slechts weinig hoger ligt dan de optredende laagwaterstand is de ontwatering van de polder niet eenvoudig. Een goede keuze van de uitwateringssluis is noodzakelijk. Het gereduceerd getij in de polder hangt sterk af van de configuratie van de inwateringssluizen. Het drempelniveau van de inwateringssluizen blijkt van cruciaal belang.<br> Op basis van criteria als de overstromingsduur, de overstromingsfrequentie, de overstromingshoogte, de variatie over springtij-doodtij , dient een optimale keuze van een realiseerbaar getij te worden gemaakt, in functie van de gewenste natuurontwikkeling.
