Particular attention is paid to the trailing edge of the ship, to ensure that a correct solution of the equation is found. Numerical results for the cases of a bank and of a uniformly-sloping beach are provided. The effect of changing a ship's waterplane shape, and the effects of changes in local water-depth, distance to the beach or bank, beach angle, and ship's yaw are all investigated. The article provides a technique which can be used to find the effect of different bottom topographies on the motion of a ship.
