The exchange of particulate matter, CO<sub>2</sub>, sulphur species, hydrocarbons and halogenated compounds, as well as the role of microbes and phytoplankton in the production of volatile species are discussed. The influence of atmospheric input of nutrients on ocean productivity and the role of photochemical processes in air/sea exchange is explored.
