The participants discussed the objectives of teaching and research in the marine sciences and the present situation in this field in Arab universities. They studies the existing educational systems at undergraduate level as well as postgraduate studies and related research. The principal obstacles facing development and co-operation in this field were pointed out. The recommendation of the meeting is given in Annex 1.
