Er worden hierbij vier alternatieven voorgesteld.<br><br>De invloed van de verschillende alternatieven werd bestudeerd op het eendimensionaal hydrodynamisch model van het Zeescheldebekken.<br><br>Het invloedsgebied van het overstromingsgebied Schellebelle op de hoogwaterstanden strekt zich uit op de Zeeschelde opwaarts Schoonaarde tot aan de sluizen te Gent en op de volledige Tijarm. Bij de alternatieven 2 en 3 is de waterstandsdaling voor stormtijen hoger dan 7.83 m te Prosperpolder ongeveer dubbel zo groot als bij de andere alternatieven. Voor lagere stormtijen levert alternatief 4 de beste resultaten op. De bouw van het overstromingsgebied Kruibeke-Bazel-Rupelmonde wijzigt deze besluiten niet.<br><br> Het verloop van het waterpeil in het gecontroleerd overstromingsgebied bij toepassing van een gecontroleerd gereduceerd tij wordt eveneens bestudeerd. De maximale waterdiepte in het overstromingsgebied bij een gemiddeld tij bedraagt 0.88 m.<br><br>De alternatieven 1, 2 en 3 hebben een verwaarloosbare invloed op de morfologie van de rivier.
