We present the Flemish Eel Pollution Monitoring Network and give an overview of related studies. Current status and recent trends of contamination in eels are described. Our results induced several management measures, which are reviewed here. The implication of our research for human health management is discussed. We further summarize our findings concerning potential effects of contaminants on the eel population.
