An introduction outlining the general migration systems in the New World is followed by an account of recent advances in our knowledge of the migration systems of particular species with differing strategies, using each species to illustrate various aspects of the biology of shorebird migration. The emphasis being on recent advances in our knowledge of distribution and routes.
