It is shown that in general the concentrations of ATP and chlorophyl a, and the activity of the electron transport and respiration as well decline with depth. Significant higher levels of ATP were found in the dwelling tube, both at the funnel side (between 7-15 cm depth) and at the excretion side. This enrichment of biomass might be explained by biomass- rich surface sediment moving down the funnel or by better growth conditions for micro-organisms in the wall of the dwelling tube, as a result of the combination of oxygen supply and organic matter rich sediment.","AbstractOtherLang":"De verticale distributie van enkele biochemische parameters nl. ATP, ETS, chlorofyl a, respiratie en E.C. werden bestudeerd in een natuurlijk wad en in een experimentele opstelling, waarbij metingen in en om de woonbuis van de wadpier, <i>Arenicola marina</i>, werden uitgevoerd. De distributie van ATP en chlorofyl a vertoont i.h.a. evenals de ETS-activiteit en de respiratie een afname in de verticaal. In de woonbuis van de wadpier wordt aan de trechterzijde tussen 7-15 cm diepte en aan de poephoopzijde in de hele buis een significante verrijking aan ATP gevonden t.o.v. het wadsediment.
